Correcting Cost basis when putting ETH into Staking and back out again

For Tax purposes, on Coinbase, a person has ETH, he moves it out of the account, and puts it into the staking platform on Coinbase. Coinbase recognizes this as a transaction, ie, a sale, which is not what i am doing. I am only staking my ETH on their platform. When i withdraw my ETH it then gives me another cost ie, now a purchase and a new cost. My cost basis was very low, but now i am paying tax on a swap instead of a transfer into a staking platform. How do I adjust the numbers so i don't have a large tax problem since i have owned ETH for almost 5 years. I was not selling, but that is how the software recognizes it. How do i fix this issue.
